Samuel Weishaupt travelled the world many years in a converted LandRover. After returning home he started his company for exclusive car design in Appenzell Switzerland. His first assignment from a californian client was a luxury and sportive campervan on the basis of a Mercedes Sprinter. The lessons learnt at this project were the starting point for his new endeavour, the design of a standardized cabin with an individual, high-quality interior, now known as the W2.

As of 2013, Welthaupt expanded into a second branch: W+ TECHNIK designs, builds and installs customized constructions in metal and timber.
